The Food Distribution Program is a federal program that provides commodity foods to low-income American Indian and non-Indian households residing on a reservation or Alaska Native Tribal Village, and households living in approved near areas that contain at least one member of a federally recognized tribe. Eligible households are certified based upon income and resource standards set by the federal government and must be re-certified at least every 12 months. The Food Distribution Program is provided by a service grant from the United States Department of Agriculture.

The areas currently being served by the Food Distribution Program are Akiak, Alakanuk, Chitina, Hamilton (Kotlik), Hydaburg, King Cove, Kongiganak, Kotzebue, Metlakatla, Old Harbor, Seldovia, and Stebbins.
