* Cancer Survivorship Education. A monthly telehealth cancer survivor education series is broadcast monthly through the AFHCAN telehealth network. Topics are presented by experts in the cancer field around survivorship, stress, nutrition, and how to talk about cancer, to name a few.
* Digital stories (DS). Digital storytelling combines narration, images, sound, video, and technology to create a short movie. Participants give voice to their experiences as they exercise their power to write and create their own personal narrative. Through digital storytelling people are empowered to be the storyteller and the teacher. DS gives participants access to develop their own media messages for health or wellness that are relevant to their community; share their story in a meaningful way that helps open up discussions about cancer.
* Beading for a cause (B4C). We are working with cancer survivors and those who have lost a loved one to cancer, to bead a 4x4" square that will be used to put together a beaded quilt/tapestry. We are collecting squares from Alaska Native People from all over the State and we are taking a picture of the square (and of the survivor/bead artist if they wish), and getting their story about the square, to put in a book to stay with the quilt. You can see the project the B4C website and you can also get the instructions on the website on how to participate.
We are doing this quilt as a tribute to the strength of the Alaska Native People and to build awareness about cancer; it is through our art we are hoping to inspire people to make cancer screenings a part of their wellness care. We've had all different kinds of cancer survivors participate in this beautiful project, which we are so grateful for. It saddens our hearts that there are so many people that are having to deal with cancer, and we hope that through our art, we will be able to help make a difference in the rates of cancer that affect our Peoples, if not at least, give voice to the Native People living with cancer.
* Speaker services. The NPCC Program Manager is available to talk with Tribal community members about cancer treatments and survivorship services, provide technical assistance and training for cancer education, as well as participate in community events/health fairs.
