TTS Training

The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium Tobacco Treatment Specialist training is held annually in the fall.  The Tobacco Treatment Specialist training is open to any individual who is interested in providing comprehensive tobacco treatment for those who might be thinking about quitting tobacco.

Cost: $500 for both Alaska residents and out-of-state residents

Dates of next training: September 17 through 21, 2012

Topics and modules covered in the training include an introduction to tobacco, the biology of nicotine dependence, pharmacotherapy for the treatment of nicotine dependence, tobacco treatment strategies, relapse prevention, spit tobacco, working with tobacco users with substance abuse and mental health disorders, working with tobacco users with medical conditions, motivational interviewing, providing a comprehensive intake assessment, developing a treatment plan, and tobacco use in Alaska.

Additionally, the training covers documentation and evaluation, the law and ethics specific to the healthcare or worksite setting, and professional services available for patient support and professional education or consultation.
