TTS Certification

To become certified you must:

  1. Attend all five-days of training
  2. Take the pre-test, and pass the post-test with a score of 70% or higher
  3. Completing 480 service hours focused on tobacco dependence treatment as a part of direct patient care OR completing 240 service hours focused on tobacco dependence treatment as a part of direct patient care AND possessing a graduate or health related degree.*

*  Certified substance abuse counselors, clinical psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, licensed social workers, pharmacists, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants.

Tobacco dependence treatment experience may be any of the following:

  1. Conducting, preparing/planning of smoking cessation classes
  2. Face-to-face or telephonic quit smoking counseling
  3. Providing training to other providers specific to tobacco treatment
  4. Supervising other tobacco treatment specialists

TTS Recertification

Certification is granted for a two-year period of time.  Renewal of certification will require documentation of 24 CEU/CME credits granted by an accredited organization (75% of which must be specific to the treatment of tobacco use and dependence).

Documentation of CEU/CME credits must be submitted at least one month prior to the expiration date
