  • Hepatitis C Infection and Innovative Public Health Practice.  Dr. Ann Thomas will describe the epidemiology and natural history of Hepatitis C virus (HCV), with an emphasis on local data on risk factors and the burden of disease. Dr. Ann Shindo will discuss innovative examples of program collaboration and service integration in local health jurisdictions targeting adults who are at risk of transmitting viral hepatitis, HIV, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  September 16, 11 a.m. - noon. 
  • Community Based Cancer Control:  A seminar for American Indian and Alaska Native Community Health Advocates. This training seminar is open to tribal community members with an interest in improving cancer prevention, screening, and treatment in your community. It will help develop elements of writing community-based grants and will cover the basics: where to find funding; how to establish grant-writing goals and objectives and how to develop a budget.  March 8-13, 2009.   • Summer Research Training Institute for American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN Health Professionals.  The NW Portland Area Indian Health Board Research Training is designed to meet the needs of professionals who work in diverse areas of AI/AN health and who want to take advantage of new skill-building opportunities with courses that emphasize research skills and program design and implementation.   • Summer Institute Program to Increase Diversity in Health-Related Research (SIPID) - various locations  
  • The Healthy Native Communities Fellowship (HNCF) engages a diverse cross-section of emerging leaders through collaborative learning grounded in Native spiritual and cultural perspectives. Since 2005, HNCF has united 60 local teams and over 160 Fellows across the nation.  With skills learned during the four, one-week, retreats, Fellows build dynamic bridges between their work and multiple stakeholders.
