Above: Two young fisherman wear their personal flotation devices (PFDs) at the Bethel dock while waiting to start the day's fishing. Correct PFD use is essential to prevent injuries in Alaska, where vast roadless expanses require frequent travel by water. Alaska has more than 50% of the entire coastline of the United States and thousands of miles of rivers.
