Community Environmental Health

What we do

Environmental health consultants work primarily with Tribal Councils, Cities, and Health Care Providers, and Tribal Health Organizations to protect public health.  We conduct routine site visits of drinking water/wastewater, solid waste, clinic, and headstart facilities.  We support the State of Alaska Lay Vaccinators Program by training lay vaccinators and sponsoring rabies clinics in communities.

Our staff are often called upon to provide technical training and information on environmental health issues specific to a community.  Please contact us if you have any questions about how we can help you.

 Other services:

  1. Brownfields/Tribal Response Program - A brownfield is a real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. This EPA grant focuses on establishing and enhancing Tribal Response Programs.

  2. Early Childhood Outdoor Play Inspectors- We are certified to inspect play areas

  3. Injury Prevention Support (IP)- We support IP efforts in Anchorage Service Unit (ASU) communities and have partnered with the State of Alaska to provide free smoke detector's in the home. We are certified to inspect portable fire extinguishers.

  4. Food/water borne disease outbreak investigations

What is environmental health?

Environmental health is the study of the interactions between humans and our physical surroundings. Our goal is to work with communities to protect the health of Alaska Natives and prevent the spread of communicable disease by identifying public health concerns and providing training and education.  Environmental health is a broad field that encompasses food safety, water & air quality, healthy housing, and injury prevention.
