Caution X-ray RadiationHealthcare Provider Diagnostic X-ray Imaging Course

  

This course is specifically designed for healthcare professionals (i.e., physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and community health aides) working in rural clinics who take medical X-rays. The purpose of the course is to help providers optimize radiographic image quality while minimizing x-ray exposure to patients and staff.   

The principal instructor for the course is Ron Deis.  Mr. Deis is the Manager of the Alaska Native Medical Center (ANMC) imaging services. In addition to supervising the ANMC Radiology Department, Mr. Deis is an instructor with the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Course Information:

  • Course Length: 4 days: The format of the course includes lectures during the day with demonstrations of positioning.  Bring note taking supplies. 
  • Currently there are no fees for tuition. 
  • Travel, per diem, and textbook costs are the responsibility of the class participant or their employer.   
  • Continuing Education Units: Available for nurses and physicians (a certificate of completion, copies of the instructor's credentials, and a course outline will be provided to attendees for continuing education unit purposes)

(Most clinics have this book and it is not required for the class but it is an excellent resource.  If the student prefers to have their own it can be purchased on the internet at a variety of online stores.
