Scholarship and Externship Opportunities Upcoming Application Deadlines: The Indian Health Service (IHS) Scholarship application cycle for the 2010-2011 academic year is open and available online at the IHS Scholarship website to interested applicants. Deadline is March 28, 2010 – completed applications must be post marked by the deadline date. IMPORTANT: Remember to send your supporting documentation and if applying via Print Application, your completed applications – to your Area Office. Applications sent directly to IHS Headquarters will be returned to applicants.
The Indian Health Service (IHS) Externship application cycle for the 2010 is open. To apply, you can log on to IHS Job Vacancies website and search “Student Extern” and “Anchorage”, “AK” for the posting. Please follow the application instructions listed on the job posting. Indian Health Service (IHS) Scholarship Program The ANTHC Education, Development and Training Department facilitates the Indian Health Service (IHS) Scholarship program for the Alaska Area, whichprovides selected scholarship recipients who are Alaska Native or American Indian permanent Alaska residents with paid tuition, related fees, a small amount for travel and books, and a monthly stipend for living expenses. As the Alaska Area IHS Scholarship Coordination office, we provide support and direction to applicants, continuing scholars, and liaison with the IHS Scholarship branch staff. The selection process and disbursement of scholarship funds is directly managed by the IHS Scholarships branch in Rockville, MD. The IHS Scholarship program is a very competitive national scholarship program. The IHS currently funds three (3) health career and allied health career scholarship programs:

Indian Health Service (IHS) Externship Program The ANTHC Education, Development and Training Department also facilitates the Indian Health Service (IHS) Externship program for the Alaska Area. The IHS Externship programprovides IHS Scholarship recipients and other health professional with opportunities to be employed as an IHS extern during any non-academic period for up to 120 days per calendar year. As Alaska’s statewide provider of native health services, we are able to provide IHS Externs placement in our facilities where they can accumulate valuable work experience in their chosen health disciplines. The ANTHC Education, Development and Training Departmentcoordinates the placement opportunities, works with the IHS Alaska Area Federal HR Office on selection process and manages supervision of externs during course of program.
