Community of Residence (for RPMS facilities)

Please be sure to read both the User Pop Overview and Technical page first. As the technical user pop page explains in detail, when Indian Health Service calculates Active User Population, the assignment of users (patients) is based upon community of residence, not the community where the facility is located (or where the patient received health care).

For facilities that use Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) software, residence is based on the Community of Residence field in the RPMS Patient Registration package. This field is displayed two different ways within RPMS:

1.  Registering a New Patient (ADD):

The Community of Residence is displayed as Present Community when entering patient demographics.  The next prompt will ask for the date the patient moved to this community.

Present Community = Community of Residence

2.  Editing a Patient's file (EPT):

The Community of Residence is displayed as Current Community (on page 1 of the patient's record, Identifiers, item #8, as displayed below). When that field (8) is selected for change, RPMS prompts both the date moved and then community of residence.

Current Community = Community of Residence
