While we have a lot of work ahead, we are making significant strides to improve the services we provide.
Ongoing demolition for the ESE Expansion project will continue to create noise and vibrations at the ANMC hospital.
Construction update
This week, construction crews started demolition of the exterior brick on the east side of the ANMC hospital in the north corner. This work is anticipated to take two weeks – crews will be working north to south. This work will create noise and vibrations as the brick is removed from the exterior of the building.
There is ongoing demolition of existing footings and retaining walls that will create noise and vibrations as construction crews use jackhammers to break up and remove the footings and retaining walls.
Demolition of the existing ambulance bay on the northeast corner of the ANMC hospital is tentatively scheduled for week of Sept. 23. This work will also create noise and vibrations.
Starting Sept. 20, construction crews will start the early containment of Phase 1C and this will start the demolition work of Phase 1C. Fast Flex will remain open, as ESD staff are still using eight exam rooms, one restroom, and the corridor in area 1C.
Temporary Emergency Services Department now open
The ANMC Temporary Emergency Services Department (ESD) opened on Sept. 7. Patients now present for emergency care to the Temporary ESD, located on the southeast side of the ANMC hospital.
Access to the Temporary ESD is from the Diplomacy Drive entrance. The Tudor Centre entrance is for emergency vehicle access only. The former Emergency Room entrance is closed for construction, as we move into the next phases of the Emergency Services Expansion project.
Parking Update
Most of the ANMC hospital east parking lot is fenced off for construction activities. Day parking is no longer available in the ANMC hospital east lot, with the exception of limited ADA accessible parking. The remainder of available parking in this area is reserved for ESD patients. Staff are not permitted to park in this area. Employees who regularly park in designated patient parking areas will be ticketed and their supervisor will be notified – resulting in the possibility of corrective action.
Additional parking locations include: the ANMC Patient Housing Parking Garage (north of the hospital), the Denali Parking Garage (east of the hospital), and the Flattop Mountain Parking Garage (south of the hospital). There is a marked pedestrian path from the Denali Parking Garage for all foot traffic between the garage and the ANMC hospital.
