ANTHC is moving forward with construction for Phase 1 of the ESE project, which includes floors 1-3 and renovations to the existing Emergency Department. Improvements that will come with the expansion of floors 1-3, include:

• 21 additional Emergency Department patient care spaces
• 12 new Clinical Decision Unit beds for observation
• 15 additional behavioral health treatment space
• 10 new surgery recovery bays
• New, dedicated drive through ambulance entrance
• Core and shell design necessary to build floors 4-6

ANTHC is also moving forward with designing floors 4-6 as we seek additional funding to support construction of Phase 2, which includes:

• 60 new inpatient beds;
• Private inpatient rooms (converting from semi-private);
• 32 new adult inpatient beds; and
• Helipad to enhance trauma services.

While we have a lot of work ahead, we are making significant strides to improve the services we provide.

Construction and Parking Updates – July 19

ICYMI/Reminder: A three-week partial road closure of Tudor Centre Drive is currently underway and expected to last through August 5. Last weekend, the remainder of the ANMC hospital east side parking lot was taken offline for construction activities. Please allow yourself more time to get to campus and remain alert for traffic pattern changes and detour signage.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction for Phase 1A of the Temporary Emergency Department (ED) is ongoing and crews are making great progress! Framing is complete. The final gypsum wall board (GWB) installation, and taping and painting are nearing completion. Finish work has begun – the installation of cabinetry and window sills is underway. The final installations of sprinklers, new plumbing and ducting, and electrical into trim out are underway. Ceiling grid and hard lid installation has begun.

For Phase 1B, selective demolition of the former Orthopedics Clinic space is well underway. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing demolition is ongoing, and the GWB demolition is complete. 

ANMC hospital east side exterior site work is underway. The new curb installation is complete. Heat tubing installation at the new Temporary ED entry is underway, and canopy trim-out, painting, and roofing will start soon. Bollard and fence installation started this week. The final grade and compaction work have begun and landscaping work will start soon. 

PARKING UPDATE

Last week, construction crews significantly extended their construction footprint in the ANMC hospital east side parking lot. Day parking is no longer be available in the ANMC hospital east lot – with the exception of some ADA accessible parking and short-term parking for Emergency Room patient drop-offs.

A traffic flagger is present in the lot to ensure drivers are aware of alternate parking locations and do not park in designated emergency vehicle areas.

Additional parking locations include: the ANMC Patient Housing Parking Garage (north of the hospital), the Denali Parking Garage (east of the hospital), and the Flattop Mountain Parking Garage (south of the hospital). There is a marked pedestrian path from the Denali Parking Garage for all foot traffic between the garage and the ANMC hospital.
