Dermatology is a medical specialty focused on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. Our medical providers have had special training in the prevention, recognition and treatment of these diseases. Each dermatologic condition has characteristic symptoms and should be managed accordingly. Additionally, each case will vary significantly in severity, which will determine the treatment options. Some of the most common dermatologic conditions include:
- Acne: pimples on the skin due to inflammation of the sebaceous glands
- Warts: small hard growth on the skin caused by a virus
- Eczema: rough and inflamed skin that is itchy and may bleed
- Psoriasis: itchy, red, scaly patches on the skin
- Dermatitis: red, swollen and sore skin caused by irritation or allergy
- Fungal infections: infection of the skin or nails caused by a fungus
- Skin cancer: uncontrolled growth of skin cells
There are many types of therapies that may be used in the management of skin conditions. Some of these may include:
- Topical medications
- Immunotherapy/systemic medications
- Surgery (biopsy, excision)
- Laser therapy (dermatologic treatment only, non-cosmetic)
- Phototherapy (specific dermatologic conditions, which is ordered by the dermatology provider)
How do I make an appointment?
To make an appointment, you must first receive a referral from your primary care provider or another specialty clinic.
If you have any questions, please contact our clinic and we can work with you and your provider on the appropriate referral.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long will it take me to be seen?
When we receive a referral from your primary care provider, you will receive a call within two business days to schedule an appointment with one of our providers. Your scheduled appointment date and time is dependent on the severity of your dermatologic condition; therefore, you may have to wait up to five weeks to be seen.
How long is my first appointment and what will be done for my dermatologic condition?
Your first appointment will be a thorough exam by the dermatology provider and may take 20-40 minutes, depending on your dermatologic condition.
Can I get a referral for my child to get a wart removed?
Your primary care provider can treat this at their office. You can still get a referral to see our specialty clinic, but we do suggest you try over-the-counter treatments before you visit our clinic, especially in the case of younger children. Our treatment for warts is cryotherapy, which is painful and results in blistering and will take multiple treatments.
Who can get phototherapy and when can I start the treatment?
Treatment is ordered by our providers if it is determined that your dermatological condition will benefit from this therapy. You may start the therapy treatment right away.
