  • 15 additional behavioral health treatment space
  • 10 new surgery recovery bays
  • New, dedicated drive through ambulance entrance
  • Core and shell design necessary to build floors 4-6

ANTHC is also moving forward with designing floors 4-6 as we seek additional funding to support construction of Phase 2, which includes:

  • 60 new inpatient beds;
  • Private inpatient rooms (converting from semi-private);
  • 32 new adult inpatient beds; and
  • Helipad to enhance trauma services.

While we have a lot of work ahead, we are making significant strides to improve the services we provide.

Construction and Parking Updates – May 9

Construction update

Crews are making significant progress with the construction of Zone Charlie. The interior framing is now complete except for the demising wall. The exam rooms have been painted, and the headwall installation is underway.

The final drywall in Zone Charlie is being installed and finishing touches, including paint, ceiling installation, and bathroom tiling, are being added to the space. Additionally, the installation of case work, wall protections, and floor preparation is underway.

Outside, gravel fill, compaction, and waterproofing continue in preparation for the tower. The installation of helical piles will begin at the end of next week, and the pouring of elevator pits & walls will follow the forming and installation of rebar.

Roof demolition on level 2 started on May 7 and is expected to be completed by May 19. The demolition areas are above the existing ESD and adjacent areas (see map above). This work will bring noise and vibrations.

Roof demolition on level 3 will begin on May 21, or once the level 2 roof demo is complete. The demo will take about 2 weeks and should be complete around June 6. This will impact the OR area and will bring noise and vibration.

Reminder: Temporary Emergency Services Department now open

As construction continues elsewhere in the hospital, we have opened the Temporary Emergency Services Department (ESD). Patients should present to the Temporary ESD, located on the southeast side of the hospital.

Access to the Temporary ESD is from the Diplomacy Drive entrance. The former Emergency Room entrance is closed for construction.

Parking Update

Most of the ANMC Hospital’s east parking lot is fenced off for construction activities. Day parking is no longer available in the ANMC hospital east lot, except for limited ADA-accessible parking. The remainder of the available parking in this area is reserved for ESD patients.

Additional parking locations include the ANMC Patient Housing Parking Garage (north of the hospital), Denali Parking Garage (east of the hospital), and Flattop Mountain Parking Garage (south of the hospital). There is a marked pedestrian path from the Denali Parking Garage for all foot traffic between the garage and the ANMC hospital.
