Services
The ANTHC Diabetes Program clinical team is a multidisciplinary group of diabetes experts specializing in managing the diabetes needs of Alaska Native people. The Diabetes clinical team consists of a physician, nurse practitioner, a dietitian, and a pharmacist, who are also certified diabetes educators, and a nurse case manager.
We provide guidance for people with:
- All types of diabetes
- Complex diabetes medication regimens
- Insulin pumps
- Continuous glucose monitors
- Diabetes complications
We also aim to provide support in teaching diabetes self-management techniques during clinic visits and our semiannual Group Medical Visits. We partner with our patients to better understand how to:
- Live well with good nutrition and activity
- Self-monitor blood sugar
- Manage food insecurity
- Take diabetes medications
- Take care of feet, eyes, and teeth
In addition to providing patient care at ANMC, the ANTHC Diabetes Program’s clinical team provides patient care at Tribal health regional hospitals across the state during annual Diabetes Specialty Clinics. Contact your local clinic for more information.
How do I make an appointment?
To make an appointment, you must first receive a referral from your primary care provider or another specialty clinic.
If you have any questions, please contact our clinic and we can work with you and your provider on the appropriate referral.
How long will it take me to be seen?
You will be called within one business day and scheduled within 2-4 weeks.

Expect to see a medical provider, either the diabetes doctor or diabetes nurse practitioner and a diabetes educator.
Where is the Diabetes Clinic located?
We are on the third floor of the Healthy Communities Building. Check in at the front desk of Internal Medicine for your diabetes appointment.
What should I bring with me to a diabetes clinic appointment?
You should bring all medications in their original containers, your blood glucose monitor and log book.
