How do I make an appointment?
To make an appointment, you must first receive a referral from your primary care provider or another specialty clinic.
If you have any questions, please contact our clinic and we can work with you and your provider on the appropriate referral.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring all your medications in the original containers. Bring any questions you have about the condition you are being seen for.
How long does it take for my lab results to come back?
Most lab results are available within 24 hours. If you have not received a call within two business days of your visit, feel free to call the clinic and ask to speak with the case manager of the provider you saw.
Can I get pain medicine/pain management from this clinic?
The Internal Medicine Clinic does not provide chronic pain management. Our providers do not commonly or routinely prescribe pain medications; it is highly unlikely you will receive a pain medication prescription from our providers. Pain medications are best managed by a primary care provider. You are welcome to an appointment to discuss your pain and other options for addressing it.
If I have an appointment with this clinic, can I get my housing and travel extended?
If you make your own appointment with Internal Medicine it is considered a “self-referral” and we cannot extend your housing or travel for a self-referral appointment. If you are referred to see one of our providers by your primary care provider or another clinic, then your housing and travel can be extended for the appointment, however, usually this is addressed by the referring clinic.
Who will follow up with me after my visit?
After you see one of our general medicine providers, typically follow up is managed by your primary care provider. If there is any follow up needed by your primary care provider, our case management will communicate this to them, however it is helpful if you reach out to your primary care provider as well. Occasionally, our general medicine providers will want to follow up with you directly. If this is the case, they will let you know.
Who is my primary care provider?
Your primary care provider is a provider in your village or sub-regional clinic who addresses your general health needs. This provider will help you manage your overall health and help coordinate your care if you see specialists while in Anchorage. If you are unsure who your primary care provider is, please ask a case manager in our clinic, who can help identify your primary care provider.
