ANTHC shares activities and resources during September’s Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

September 5, 2023

Please join ANTHC to Tell Your Heart Story in honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

We recognize suicide affects everyone and that it can be challenging to talk about. Throughout September, ANTHC will host weekly activities to promote mental, physical, spiritual and emotional wellness. After completing the weekly activity, visit anthc.org/TYHS and complete a survey for a chance to win $100 in Amazon gift cards. Participation is open to all Alaska residents.

Tell Your Heart Story activities will focus on self-care, creating connections to improve your overall mental health, and how to help yourself and others who may be having thoughts of suicide and experiencing a mental health crisis.

Weekly activities:

  • Sept. 1-10 – 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline resources
  • Sept. 11-17 – Caring connections
  • Sept. 18-24 – Traditional activities with movement
  • Sept. 25-30 – Journaling or creating art

The ANTHC Behavioral Health Wellness Clinic offers telehealth counseling, assessments and referral support to adult Tribal beneficiaries anywhere in Alaska. You can access our care from your personal cell phone or computer. To learn more or become a client, visit anthc.org/bhwc or call 907-729-2492 Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Need support now? Help is available. Call or text 988 or chat with a professional at 988lifeline.org to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, offering 24/7 access to trained crisis counselors who can help people experiencing mental health-related distress. That could be:

  • Thoughts of suicide
  • Mental health or substance use crisis, or
  • Any other kind of emotional distress

You can call for yourself or a loved one you are worried about who may need crisis support.
