Welcome to Patient Housing at ANMC, your home away from home while receiving care at the Alaska Native Medical Center. We look forward to your visit. More than half of the patients at the Alaska Native Medical Center hospital travel from outside Anchorage to access a broad variety of health services. The Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium is committed to ensuring that a lack of housing does not impact those seeking care. Our priorities are expanding services and support for our people who need care and providing a “home away from home” environment that facilitates rest and recovery.
In order to better serve our guests and decrease the amount of time to get into your room, effective Nov. 1, 2023, our check-in time is 4 p.m. Checkout time is noon.
The Patient Housing Cafeteria is open daily from 7 a.m.-11:30 p.m. and serves a variety of hot and chilled foods. Guests of Patient Housing may use their meal card to purchase items throughout the day and dine with your family and friends in the spacious Patient Housing dining area.
The ANMC Cafeteria in the hospital is open daily from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., and serves a variety of hot and chilled foods for the convenience of your family and friends. Guests of Patient Housing may also utilize their meal cards here.
Please report any emergencies immediately by dialing “911.”
The building’s front doors and the doors leading into Patient Housing from the second floor sky bridge are locked daily from 9 p.m.-7 a.m. When locked, they can be opened with a guest room key card, or by utilizing the call button for after hours access.
To be eligible for lodging through Patient Housing, the patient must meet the following criteria::
When you walk into Patient Housing, you will notice three kiosks where you will start your check-in process. Our Patient Experience staff, located next to the check-in kiosks are able to assist with meal cards, taxi vouchers, housing extensions and other questions.

Visitors of any age may visit in our guest rooms; however, visitors ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Overnight guests are strictly forbidden unless they are registered as a patient escort.
In some cases for patient safety, a patient escort is approved and you may have a trusted friend or family member accompany you on your hospital visit. For your safety, it is important for us to reiterate the following responsibilities required of a patient escort:
The main hospital doors are closed after 5 p.m. each evening and reopened each morning at 7 a.m. Visitors may enter through the Emergency Room entrance on the east side of ANMC. After 10 p.m., security will have a screening desk set up. With approval from the nurses caring for the patient, they can issue after hours passes for visitors. Visitors will be required to provide proof of identification to security before they will issue a pass.
Calls from outside Patient Housing will be routed directly to your room through our switchboard. Your family and friends can reach you in your room by calling our main number, (907) 729-2400 and then dialing the room number after the prompt.
A courtesy phone is available next to the ATM in the Patient Housing lobby and in all business center stations for visitors to call patient rooms.
Dial the full 10-digit number to make a local call outside of Patient Housing. All local calls are free. Long distance calls can only be made by dialing collect or using a calling card.
There is a house phone located in each elevator lobby that will dial directly to the front desk.
Cell phones are allowed in all areas of Patient Housing. There are restrictions on the use of cell phones in certain areas of the hospital because they may interfere medical equipment, so please check with the nurses to make sure they are allowed in the area you are visiting. Visitors wishing to use a cell phone are asked to use the hospital cafeteria, lobby or waiting rooms to make a call. Visitors are asked to not take pictures of staff or patients with camera phones.
Wireless internet is offered throughout Patient Housing. The network name is “Internet Only.” No password is necessary to connect to this network.
In the first floor lobby of Patient Housing there are three business center computers available for guests use. Guests may access email, Facebook, and stay connected with family while they’re away from home. Business centers are complete with printers and courtesy phones. Guests are asked to limit their time to 30 minutes in order to allow all guests an opportunity to utilize this amenity.
Housekeepers will visit your room every other day, preferably while you are out, and sanitize the bathroom, clean all exposed surfaces, empty trash and replace towels as necessary. Every fourth day, we will change your bedding as well. If you would like additional housekeeping services or have questions or concerns about the cleanliness of your room, please press the housekeeping button on the phone in your room and we will send an attendant between the hours of 8 a.m.- 8 p.m. to attend to your needs.
Each room in Patient Housing has a television. We offer a basic cable package with mainly local stations. We ask that you please be considerate of your neighbors when watching television and keep the sound volume low. The channel line up can be found on channel 7.
A small safe is available for you to use in your room. Instructions for use are on the front of the safe, located on the door of your closet.
Parking at ANMC and Patient Housing is free. Please note that there are handicap parking spaces and Elder parking spaces provided in various areas on the grounds and in the parking garage attached to Patient Housing for your convenience. Elder parking is for our visitors over the age of 62.
Discharge waiting areas
Once you are discharged from the hospital, it is important that you vacate your room in Patient Housing as soon as possible so we can accommodate the next guest. If your transportation out of Anchorage is not until later in the day, you may choose to check your luggage with us and wait in our lobby.
Floors four and six are outfitted with fully functional kitchens for our guests to use. You can keep your large food items in the refrigerator/freezer, but please clean out your foodstuff before leaving. Please help us keep the kitchens tidy and clean up after each use. The sixth floor kitchen is for guests of the Ronald McDonald Floor only.
The Elders’ Lounge at Patient Housing provides a quiet and comfortable waiting space for Elders who are 62 and older. This space is available for Elders and their escorts. It is open 7 days a week, 24 hours per day. If an Elder has an escort, the escort is also permitted to use this space, as long as they are with the Elder.
